  One Thing

10/10/10  One Thing
What made Abraham special?
James 2:23; Gen. 15:1-6; 17
*vs. 2 Abraham was honest with God: when God offered protection Abraham's response was the one thing that mattered to him most. The one thing that if God did not give him would crush him. He trusted God enough to let him know that he was "salty" about not having a child.
* vs. 4 Abraham heard a word from God and believed him. God is looking for those who will believe him for things that it will hurt their feelings if that desire is not met. It is the enemy that takes us to a place of ambivalence (well if it happens, but if not oh well) about our dreams and desires. God wants us to hold on and trust him with our desires as he recognizes that we have them. It takes faith to say I will trust you no matter what and to put it out there rather than allowing the devil to talk us into quieting about it as a sign that we dont quite trust God to meet that desire.
* Abraham and his wife's names were changed and Sarah means pretty young thing (he started singing pyt) and it must have had a whole lot of people looking at Abraham funny to call his wife a pyt at 99 years old but he got a good confession in his mouth about the thing that he was asking from God and spoke it for others to hear.
* God promised that if Abraham would cut some things out of his life (circumcision) that in another year (God put a timeline on himself) he would bless him with a son. At some point, in order to reach our dreams we have to cut away those things that God is requiring of us and separate from unclean things.

I hope that this encourages you as much as it did for me...
